William Ruppel
Will Ruppel is a Canadian glass artist who works in many mediums, primarily using blown and flameworked glass. Will began his love for glass making from the first time he saw it, by watching the process at, Sheridan College of Arts and Design, while in the Art Fundamentals program. He enrolled in the program at Fleming College, Haliburton School of the Arts and graduated with honours from the Glass and Ceramics programs. Will returned to Sheridan College, one of the leading schools in Canada for blown glass, completing the three-year advanced
diploma in the Crafts and Design: Glass program. Will was accepted as a resident at The Harbourfront Center (summer). He has shown in such shows as The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. The process of making blown vessels fascinates Will. He uses shape, contrast and texture, weaving them together to decorate the vessel.
In his sculpture, Will uses the contrast of other materials to glass. He is inspired by the powers of nature. The power of a storm, the influential power of the full moon and the shear strength of a plant growing relentlessly through our man made unmaintained structure, to name a few.
