Sue Obata
After studying Creative Art at Sheridan College, I worked for over seven years at two ecclesiastical glass studios in Toronto. At this time, I learned the traditional techniques of painting on glass and finally specialized in
figure painting, drawing and designing.
Since 1981, I have been painting, designing and creating art glass windows for public, private, and sacred spaces. These commissions have given me the opportunity to work on site specific glass installations in an architectural context where I have been able experience how glass can transform environments. During the last
twelve years, I have been creating personal artwork using painting, etching and silk screening techniques on glass. This work, often inspired by nature, is impressionistic rather than representational. I am interested
in how glass can be used as a “canvas” and medium that works with transmitted and reflected light to express my impressions. “Amber jacks” is part of a series I did on “amber” related subjects and was created at Sattler's Glass Studio in Nova Scotia.
