Joe Speck
I grew up on a farm in Ontario, just above the Niagara Escarpment.
We sold that farm in 2002 and I started making stained glass as a hobby. After taking a course in
fused glass, I was hooked and bought a kiln that week.
I can remember when I was 6 or 7 , making mini-potmelts of different coloured wax crayons by leaving them out in the sun to melt. Little did I know that 50 years later I would be creating the same effects in
glass.
A lot of my work reflects the aerial views of farmland. You can see plowed fields, orchards,
vineyards and streams and the ever present hydro towers we had to avoid with the equipment.
We now live in Jordan, Ontario where I work from my studio, still surrounded by orchard and
vineyard.
