Brad Turner
Native to Calgary, Brad received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2006. Shortly after graduation he ventured to Toronto to complete a four-year Artist Residency at the Harbourfront Centre Glass Studio, where he developed a mix of sculptural and functional glass objects with a focus on conceptual originality, diversity, clean lines, and cohesive intent. Represented in the exhibition, Turner’s Balance body of work is a recombination of traditional glass forms literally balanced on a single point. In one respect, they are a formal study of composition and visual weight; in another, a study in gestalt, with an apparently complete object being the product of a unique combination of irreplaceable and essential parts. With Balance he hopes to capture the beauty and rarity of equilibrium by drawing attention to a tenuous existence.
His most recent change of scenery resides in Alfred, NY, USA, where he is currently courting an MFA in his final year at Alfred University. In addition to his artistic training, Turner holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the
University of Calgary, having earlier pursued an interest in physical activity and awareness.
