Amanda Parker
In this unsure and often concerning present there are some things that transcend time. An old postcard that was sent to your great grandmother during the war telling her everything would be okay, a crocheted doily made lovingly, each thread meticulously manipulated into an item that is cherished but often forgotten or hidden away in a drawer. These objects hold meaning that transcend their physical appearance or even their former
use.
Rendering found crochet works in glass gives them a delicate but archival quality, while at the same time calling attention to their fragility. The technique pate de verre allows for the glass to become quite textile like and yet not, challenging our perceptions and how we perceive objects.
All of my work has a commonality, I strive to build a connection between the viewer and the message that I endeavor to convey. Through the process of kiln cast glass I work to create pieces that will send a message about us as people. My aim is to encompass our relationships as well as the attachments we form with objects and
the narratives that can be created with them.
